    It seems I owe Batman an apology. I often thought that the famous masked superhero took a few creative liberties in his super-gadgets,  managing feats that no bat would ever be able to undertake.  Climbing up a glass building, thanks to sucker pads, however is apparently something that bats can do!

    It appears that things are looking up for the Sucker Footed Bat (Myzopoda aurita) of Madagascar as the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) has upgraded it from Vulnerable, where it was listed in 1990, to Least Concern after reassessing the animal in 2008 and concluding that population numbers are high, and that there are no longer any obvious major threats to its existence.

    EchidnaEchidnaWhile short-beaked Echidnas may not be the oddest animals you’ve seen, their overall personality and habits definitely place it into the weird category.  With eggs, snouts, puggles, spines and backward pointing claws, they have plenty of oddities.

    Don't feed it after midnight!Don't feed it after midnight!Where to start when looking at the world’s weirdest animals? Do you go by appearance, behaviour, or perhaps just its name?  Let me introduce to you the Aye-aye, which qualifies on all three criteria.  Although it may look like one of the evil creatures out of the movie Gremlins,  these animals are harmless, and even friendly to humans.

    Strangely, NOT a hoaxStrangely, NOT a hoaxAny animal which can't quite make up it's mind which species it belongs to deserves the title of 'weird', and the duckbilled, warm blooded, egg laying, fur covered Platypus must be one of the weirdest!  In fact,  is is so strange, that for many years, scientists believed that skeletons and sketches of the animals were elaborate hoaxes .

    Real life FraggleReal life FraggleIs it just me or does this little guy look exactly like a Jim Hensen creation?  Complete with wacky hair, round white eyes and fixed, manic smile.  Even it's pose looks like it was caught dancing mid-air, the strings barely visible.  It is actually a small species of Salamander, which is sadly endangered, and thesimilarities to the fun-loving, underground dwelling creatures in
