I'm all about celebrating culture and maintaining beloved traditions, but only when those traditions don't harm anyone. I'm against bull fighting, and now that I've read about it, I'm also against camel lifting. The contest, which takes place in Pakistan, not only involves lifting camels in a test of strength but adding so much weight to the animals that they may weigh as much as a car by the time the contest takes place.
Animal rights activists are calling for the lifting challenges to stop, saying that it's barbaric and cruel, and I can't help but agree with them. What is the next bizarre thing we're going to do with animals for entertainment, wear live ones on our heads as hats? Lift people if you need to prove how strong you are.
